Tutor guidelines
Welcome to Holapoly! We want to help you start off on the right foot. Here you'll find the requirements for your profile to be approved and how our platform works. We suggest reading this guide carefully before sending us your application, so the process is quick and smooth.
Language
- Native command: you teach your mother tongue, or a language you've spoken with native fluency since childhood (for example, if you were born in a Spanish-speaking country but grew up in a bilingual home from an early age).
- Verification: we assess your fluency and command of the language during the live interview.
Profile photo
- Focus and quality: a clear photo, facing the camera, with good lighting and your face clearly visible.
- Just you: only you should appear in the photo (no other people, pets or crops of group photos).
- No external elements: no logos, watermarks, text or contact details.
- Authenticity: the image must be current and real (no drawings, avatars or filters that alter or distort your features).
Personal description
- Key content: introduce yourself by telling who you are, where you come from, why you teach, what experience you have and how you structure your lessons.
- Warmth: write it as a direct, friendly conversation with your future student, rather than a rigid list of work history.
- Display name: include only your first name (no surnames).
- No contact details: for safety reasons, phone numbers, emails, external links and social media are not allowed. The system marks any such detail in red and won't let you send your profile until you remove it.
Introduction video (optional)
- Format: a short video recorded in landscape, with good lighting and clear audio.
- Language: record it in the language you want to teach, briefly explaining how your lessons work.
- Privacy: it must not include contact details, brands or external links.
Selection and approval process
To ensure the quality of our learning community, we follow this process:
- Initial review: we assess your application individually.
- Live interview: we schedule a short conversation with our team.
- Sample lesson: you give a short demonstration of your teaching method.
- Publication: once your profile is complete and meets these guidelines, we activate it on the platform.
- About your public name: only your first name is shown on the platform. The Holapoly team sets it when you're approved. If you spot a mistake, you can contact our support team.
How we work and cancellation policy
- Virtual classroom: all lessons must take place inside the Holapoly virtual classroom. External tools or platforms are not allowed.
- Student cancellations: if a student cancels less than 24 hours in advance or doesn't show up, you're paid for the lesson anyway.
- Tutor cancellations: please let us know as soon as possible if something comes up. Keep in mind that tutor cancellations or absences directly affect your profile's visibility and reputation.
