How to prepare your brain for a conversation class

Hi, I'm Poly. Before your next class starts, let's have a quick chat.

Does this ever happen to you? You log in, your tutor says hello, and for the first ten minutes the language just won't come out. Don't worry, it happens to almost everyone: your brain needs a moment to switch modes.

If that moment happens before class, you're ready to talk from the very first hello. Warming up is what makes an online conversation class fly by.

Three tips for minute one

Here's how to get the most out of a language lesson right from the start:

A conversation, not a test

Do this and those 55 minutes start feeling like a real conversation. And you don't need to set aside an extra hour!

Honestly, a warm-up fits into any little gap in your day. Cooking? Put on a podcast. Out for a walk? Quietly describe what you see. Commuting? Run through the topic you want to bring. What matters is showing up with the language already "switched on."

That's where a personalized lesson shines: your tutor picks up the topic you brought, corrects you in the moment and suggests vocabulary you'll genuinely use.

Practicing with someone who's really listening invites you to improvise. And improvising is exactly what helps you get over the fear of speaking.

Try it in your next class

Next time, arrive with your brain already warmed up and notice the difference right away. If you don't have a tutor yet, browse Holapoly's profiles and book your 55-minute trial class at 50% off.

Before every chat, I do my little parrot vocal warm-up. So here's my tip: warm up your voice before you turn on the camera, and the rest will follow.
